Bio

Glenn Plagens, Senior Director, Entrepreneur

Mr. Plagens is a small business specialist with more than 25 years of experience as a small business owner.  He has spent more than 40 years in the small business environment and is currently the Senior Director of the North Metro Denver and Larimer Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) at Front Range Community College.   As senior director, Mr. Plagens has overseen a 600% increase in consulting hours and the launch of over 300 new businesses. 

A graduate of Eastern Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a marketing emphasis, he is certified in Economic Gardening, which is a “grow from within” economic development strategy targeting existing growth companies and offering them critical strategic customized marketing information.  He holds certificates in export and trade and is a certified Leading Edge instructor. Leading Edge is the flagship business planning curriculum of the Colorado SBDC Network.  Mr. Plagens enjoys facilitating Leading Edge and contributing to the advancement of entrepreneurs and their ideas by relating real world experience to the development of viable business models. 

In 2014 Mr. Plagens was recognized as the State Star of the Colorado SBDC Network.  The national award is given to the SBDC Director who exhibits exemplary performance.  In 2017 the North Metro Denver SBDC was awarded the Small Business Administration’s Excellence and Innovation Award for the State of Colorado and the region.  This award was given for the overall growth of the North Metro Denver SBDC and the center’s work with small manufacturers.  Mr. Plagens helped to launch the Small Manufacturer’s AdvantEdge program for the State in 2016. 

Mr. Plagens currently serves on the Adams County Workforce Investment board executive committee, the Adams County Economic Development board where he is the co-chair of the Business Retention Task Force, Brighton Economic Development board, Coal Creek Adult Education board and the Colorado Vietnam Cooperation Council.  His past board involvement includes the Broomfield Chamber of Commerce and the Colorado Business Development Foundation.

In his spare time he obsessively skis, hikes and enjoys the outdoors with his wife and three adult children.
